Downtown Elmhurst is getting another new restaurant — and barbecue fans may already recognize the name.

Q-BBQ is planning a new location at 158-160 N. York Street in Downtown Elmhurst, expanding the locally grown barbecue concept to another Chicago suburb.

The restaurant's official website now lists Elmhurst as “Coming soon.”

Q-BBQ Is Taking Over a Downtown Elmhurst Space

The new restaurant is planned for the storefronts at 158 and 160 N. York Street, previously occupied by Carmie Cakes and Giorgi's Game Spot.

The location puts Q-BBQ right along Downtown Elmhurst's York Street corridor, surrounded by restaurants, shops and other businesses.

An exact opening date hasn't been announced yet.

A Chicago Suburban BBQ Brand

Q-BBQ isn't new to the western suburbs.

The restaurant first opened its smoker in La Grange in 2009 after its founders traveled around the country learning about different regional barbecue traditions.

The concept blends influences from barbecue destinations including Texas, Memphis and the Carolinas.

Q-BBQ currently operates restaurants in La Grange, Naperville and Oak Park, making Elmhurst its next suburban location.

What's on the Menu?

Barbecue is obviously the star.

Q-BBQ's menu includes meats smoked low and slow for hours, including:

  • Texas-style prime beef brisket

  • Carolina pulled pork

  • Pulled chicken

  • Smoked turkey

  • Brisket burnt ends

  • Memphis baby back ribs

  • Memphis-style wings

There are also sandwiches, sliders and barbecue tacos, along with sides such as Mac-Q-Roni, brisket baked beans, cornbread, hushpuppies and Southern fried potatoes.

Some meats are smoked for as long as 16 hours, according to the restaurant.

Q-BBQ Has Some Serious Barbecue Credentials

This isn't just another barbecue chain expanding across the suburbs.

Q-BBQ says it has earned recognition from the Michelin Guide and has won People's Choice honors at Chicago's Ribfest. Its catering materials specifically note Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition in 2013 and 2014 and first-place Ribfest ribs in 2015 and 2016.

The company also describes itself as independently owned and operated.

When Will Q-BBQ Open in Elmhurst?

For now, that's the big unanswered question.

Q-BBQ has officially confirmed Elmhurst as a coming-soon location, but an opening date has not yet been announced.

Still, the announcement gives Downtown Elmhurst another restaurant opening to watch.

And considering Q-BBQ already has a following in nearby La Grange and Naperville, there's a good chance plenty of western suburban barbecue fans will know exactly what to expect when the smokers finally fire up in Elmhurst.
